Rodney Dillion is a Tasmanian Aboriginal elder and direct descendant of Fanny Cochrane Smith, who was one of the first born at Wybellena on Flinders Island. Fanny moved to Oyster Cove south of Hobart, and is widely know for her extant voice recordings made in the late 1800s.

Rodney took us to a number of sites in the Huon River region to share his knowledge and stories about the Aboriginal history and culture of the area. We were on our way to the intersection of the Picton and Huon rivers to talk about the use of this area during the last ice age, but the recent fires meant that we only made it to the Arve River.
